About Pragathi

PRAGATHI is a non-Governmental organization founded in the year 1993 and is registered under Societies Registration Act 1860, foreign contribution regulation act 1976 and U/S 12A(a) of Income Tax act 1961. Its office is located at Tirupati. It works with scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, Minorities and other backward communities for their empowerment development.
Objectives of Pragathi
  • Organizing Dalit, Tribal, Women, Persons with Disability and Children to form Sangas/ Federations and linking up them to dist. and state level people organizations/ forums towards their self-sustainability.
  • Land development and education programs for dalits/ tribals and children.
  • HIV- TB intervention, patient and family counselling, referrals to DMC, treatment through DOT system supported by TB Alert India.
  •  Explore and strengthen measures to reduce poverty and distress.
  •  Promotion of community-based organization/MACS/ FPOs for improvement of resource base and its management to supplement livelihood opportunities.
  • To promote leadership among women and children.
  • To promote general health care and improve the health conditions of women and children.
  • To eradicate child labour and sensitize the parents, public, government official and Panchayath Raj members on child rights.
  • To disseminate information about social development and endeavour to Change the living conditions of rural folk with special focus on eradication of child labour, Child Marriages etc.
  • To ensure the rights of child and influence the child rights politics at national and international level.
  • Integrated Tribal development in 32 hamlets in three mandals focusing on horticulture development through WADI Approach, reaching out 1575 families, supported by NABARD

Brief History of Director

The Project Director Mr. K.V. Ramana commenced Child Rights intervention with the fellowship of CRY in the year 1998 and continued as fellow up to June-2004. Based on his commitment and performance his fellowship was converted into partnership from July-2004 onwards. He has completed 24 years in promoting child rights through community empowerment and community mobilization at 30 habitations of Chinnagottigallu Mandal, 59 habitations in expansion area of Renigunta and Yerpedu Mandals as on 2021-During this period, he could promote and strengthened community-based organizations in project area. Through regular interaction and discussions with the Sangam, project team could sensitize community on various issues and attempted to change the mindset of the people.


As Mr. K.V. RAMANA is from the rural community who has happy blend of both theoretical understanding and practical grass-root experience. Since he is from backward community, he understands the atrocities and the socio-economic situation of the community members. All through his adolescent age he was vocal against the atrocities and injustices, which exposed him to non-violent social action. This zeal brought him to a conclusion that a socialistic ideology is essential for the upliftment of the rural poor.


Searching for an organized beginning to flag off social action, he finally began his work in an organization called RISE based at Tirupati. He joined as a Field Coordinator for Vadamalapet and Puttur Mandals. After 12 years of enriching experience at RISE, in the year 1993 he started NGO named PRAGATHI and registered with like-minded individuals. He started to work with the under privileged communities in Chinnagottigallu Mandal.


He has rich experience in organizing the tribal people on land rights issue and educated them to raise their voice against the injustice. He follows different approaches in his developmental programs such as direct action, community mobilization, advocacy and lobbying, networking with the NGOs, POs, like-minded individuals, Convergence meetings with Government line departments. He carries an experience of 6.5 years as a fellow and 19 years as a project partner of CRY apart from his long-standing commitment and experience, CRY selected as Nodal agency from 2007-2016 for two partner NGO SSS, Tirupati RDP, Varadaiahpalem. The project covered 7 mandals of Chittoor District.


He has undergone several trainings and workshops conducted by various organizations such as SEARCH – Bangalore, PRIA – New Delhi, OXFAM – Hyderabad, VISWA YUVAK KENDRA – New Delhi, CRY – Bangalore, YIP – Penukonda, THREAD – Orissa, BIRDY – Hyderabad, ADD India – Bangalore, NABARD-Hyderabad, BIRD-Lucknow and APARD – Hyderabad.
